Abstract

This research aims to describe and explain (1) improving poetry writing skills through a contextual approach assisted by direct object media of class VI students at SDN 1 Ploso, Nganjuk District, Nganjuk Regency and (2) responses of class VI students at SDN 1 Ploso, Nganjuk District, Nganjuk Regency in participating in writing lessons. poetry through a contextual approach assisted by direct object media. This research is classroom action research with two research cycles. The results of this research are (1) the average student score is 61.97 in the sufficient category. The average value after the first cycle of action was 74.08 in the sufficient category. The students' average score after the second cycle of action was 81.80 in the good category, and (2) The students' response to direct object media as a way of learning to write poetry was very positive. This positive response is proven by the results of interviews, journals and observations. Based on the results of interviews in cycle I, on average they responded positively to the learning delivered by the teacher. Apart from that, based on the results of observations in Cycle I, 75% of the total number of students, they really paid attention to the teacher's explanations during the learning process, even in Cycle II the number of students liked 90%, they really liked learning using direct object media. Likewise with student activity, in cycle I the number of inactive students was 25%, but in Cycle II, inactive students decreased to 10% or around 4 students.
