Keywords: reading, beginning, institution words, and picture word cards This study aims to describe and explain (1) the use of the word institution method assisted by picture word cards can improve the beginning reading skills of first grade students of SDN Kliteh, Malo District, Bojonegoro Regency, and (2) the learning outcomes of first grade students of SDN Kliteh, Malo District, Bojonegoro Regency in learning to read beginning using the word institution method assisted by picture word cards. This study is a classroom action research using three cycles. The results of this study are (1) the use of the word institution method assisted by picture word cards can improve the beginning reading skills of first grade students of SDN Kliteh, Malo District, Bojonegoro Regency in cycle I students learn to read words with the theme of myself and the sub-theme of my body. In cycle II, students learn to read words that have not been learned in cycle I and repeat a little reading of words that have been learned before. The learning process in cycle III, students learn to read words that have not been learned before and repeat a little reading of words that have been learned. In cycle III, students have learned to read simple sentences consisting of two to three words. Learning to read beginnings using the word institution method assisted by picture word cards combined with group discussions, presentations and games. (2) The learning outcomes of first grade students of SDN 1 Kliteh, Malo District, Bojonegoro Regency in early reading learning using the word institution method assisted by picture word cards media have increased. This can be seen from the average student score at the pre-action stage of 65 or with a percentage of 36%. In cycle I, the average class score has increased to 70 or with a percentage of 52%. In cycle II, the average class score increased to 78 or with a percentage of 72%. In cycle III, the average student score increased to 84 or with a percentage of 92%.
