The Application of Shadow Puppet Media for the Formation of Student Character in Story Writing Learning for Grade III Students of SD Negeri 1 Patihan, Loceret District, Nganjuk Regency. Thesis. Madiun: Master of Education Study Program of Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Graduate School Programs, University of PGRI Madiun. Advisor (I) Prof,Dr,Bambang Eko Hari Cahyono, M.Pd, Advisor (II) Dr. Muhammad Binur Huda, M.Pd. Keywords: characters, writing stories, media, and shadow puppets This study aims to obtain a clear description of (1) the formation of student character through learning to write stories using shadow puppet media, (2) the obstacles faced by teachers and students in learning to write stories using shadow puppet media for grade III students of SD Negeri 1 Patihan, Loceret District, Nganjuk Regency. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. The data sources used in this study are informants and documents. The data collection techniques carried out by the researcher used observation techniques, interviews, and documents/archives. The data validity techniques used by the researcher are method triangulation and source triangulation. The data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification. The research concludes that several efforts to empower wayang performances will ultimately enable our nation's next generation to better recognize, understand, and appreciate their own culture and creativity. National identity is not shaped by foreign culture (as is evident in the current phenomenon among our nation's children), but rather by the culture of their environment and themselves. The current infatuation of our nation's children with foreign culture and the apparent loss of their identity presents a serious national problem that we must address as wisely as possible. We know that their current identity does not appear to be built on their own culture.
