Abstract

Siti Kotimah. 2025. Ecopedagogy Approach in Indonesian Language Learning for Character Building in Grade V of SD Negeri 3 Ngadisuko, Durenan District, Trenggalek Regency.Thesis. Master of Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program. PGRI Postgraduate School, University of Madiun (UNIPMA). Supervisor I: Dr. Supri Wahyudi Utomo, M.Pd., Supervisor II: Dr. Dwi Rohman Soleh, SS, M.Pd. Keywords: ecopedagogy, Indonesian language learning, environmental care character, elementary school, Merdeka Curriculum. This study aims to describe the implementation process of the ecopedagogical approach in Indonesian language learning, analyze its impact on strengthening students’ environmental care character, and identify the obstacles and solutions in applying ecopedagogy-based Indonesian language learning for fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 3 Ngadisuko, Durenan District, Trenggalek Regency. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. Data were collected through observations of teacher and student activities, semi-structured interviews with teachers and students, and documentation in the form of Merdeka Curriculum teaching modules and students’ work. The results indicate that the ecopedagogical approach was implemented by utilizing the school environment as a learning resource integrated into Indonesian language learning, particularly in descriptive and explanatory text materials. The teacher acted as a facilitator by connecting learning materials with environmental issues, while students actively participated in observation, discussion, and experience-based writing activities. The ecopedagogical approach had a positive impact on strengthening students’ environmental care character, as evidenced by increased awareness, attitudes, and behaviors related to maintaining cleanliness and preserving the school environment. In addition, this approach contributed to the improvement of students’ language skills. The obstacles encountered in implementing the ecopedagogical approach included limited learning time and environmental conditions that did not always support outdoor learning activities. These obstacles were addressed through adaptive strategies by adjusting learning methods and media. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the ecopedagogical approach is effective in Indonesian language learning to support the strengthening of environmental care character among elementary school students and is in line with the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum.
