Implementation of an Intercultural Approach in Poetry Teaching to Broaden Fifth Grade Students' Understanding of Cultural Diversity at Pandean Public Elementary School, Durenan District, Trenggalek Regency Thesis. Master's Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education Graduate School of PGRI University Madiun (UNIPMA) Supervisor I: Dr. Supri Wahyudi Utomo, M.Pd.. Supervisor II: Dr. Dwi Rohman Soleh, SS., M.Pd. Keywords: Intercultural, Poetry, Insight, Cultural Diversity, Elementary School This study aims to 1). Describe the implementation of an intercultural approach in teaching poetry in grade V at Pandean Public Elementary School; 2). Describe the challenges faced by teachers in applying an intercultural approach in teaching poetry; 3). Describe the impact of an intercultural approach in poetry learning to broaden students' understanding of cultural diversity. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive study design. The research subjects include fifth-grade students at Pandean Public Elementary School, Durenan District, Trenggalek Regency. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, documentation, and assessment of student learning outcomes. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that 1). The intercultural approach successfully improved students' understanding of cultural diversity through poetry; 2). The intercultural approach in poetry learning has a positive impact on students' insight, motivation, creativity, and expressive abilities; 3). The obstacles that arise in the implementation of the intercultural approach include differences in understanding vocabulary and cultural symbols, variations in interests, media limitations, and differences in students' reading and expressive abilities.
