Improving Poetry Reading Ability Through Demonstration Method Using Audio Visual Media for 5th Grade Students of State Elementary School 1 Baosan Kidul, Ngrayun District, Ponorogo Regency. Thesis. Madiun: Postgraduate Study Program, PGRI Madiun University. Supervisors (1) Dr. V. Teguh Suharto, M.Pd. (II) Dr. Dwi Rohman Soleh, S.S, M.Pd. This study was motivated by the low poetry reading skills of fifth-grade students at SDN 1 Baosan Kidul, Ngrayun District, Ponorogo Regency. Students experienced difficulties in pronunciation, intonation, expression, and lacked confidence when reading poetry aloud. These issues were largely due to monotonous teaching methods and the absence of engaging media. The purpose of this research was to improve students' poetry reading skills and learning motivation through the implementation of the demonstration method assisted by audiovisual media. The research questions focused on how the demonstration method combined with audiovisual media can enhance students' poetry reading skills and learning motivation. This study employed a qualitative approach using Classroom Action Research (CAR) based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, carried out in two cycles. Data were collected through observation, tests, documentation, and interviews, with 30 students as research subjects. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ poetry reading performance. In the pre-cycle, only 33.3% of students achieved the minimum passing grade (≥75), increasing to 70% in cycle I, and reaching 93.3% in cycle II. Furthermore, students’ motivation also improved, as reflected in their increased participation and enthusiasm during poetry reading activities. In conclusion, the demonstration method supported by audiovisual media proved to be effective in enhancing both the poetry reading skills and the learning motivation of fifth-grade students at SDN 1 Baosan Kidul.
