Abstract

ABSTRACT Mawarsih, 2025, The Effect of the Whole Language Approach on Fairy Tale Reading Skills in Grade IV Students of SD Negeri 2 Tanjungsari Thesis, Master of Indonesian Language Education Study Program, Graduate School, PGRI Madiun University. Supervisor (I) Dr. Bambang Eko Heri Cahyono, M.Pd; (II) Dr. Panji Kuncoro Hadi, SS., M.Pd. Keywords: Whole Language Learning Model, Reading Skills. Reading is a basic thing that every student must master. This research started from the low ability of students in reading skills to understand the content of fairy tales in the fourth grade Indonesian subject at SD Negeri 2 Tanjungsari, Jenangan, Ponorogo. The factor that causes the low ability of reading skills is due to the lack of interest in reading in students and the learning model that is carried out in a conventional way. Therefore, a learning model is needed that can improve students' reading skills. One of the models that can be used is the whole languange learning model. This study aims to (1) describe the implementation of the whole language learning model on the skill of reading fairy tales in Indonesian subject grade IV SD Negeri 2 Tanjungsari and (2) explain the application of the whole language learning model to the learning skills of the Indonesian language learninggrade IV at SD Negeri 2 Tanjungsari. The research method used is quantitative with a quasi-experimental design model and a type of nonequivalent group design control model. The sample taken was all grade IV students who were divided into 2 groups, as an experimental class and a control class. The data collection technique uses tests and observations. Then, the data analysis techniques used were validity, reliability, homogeneity test, normality test and independent sample t test. The test in this study used SPSS 20. Based on data analysis, it was found that (1) The implementation of Indonesian learning using the whole language learning model obtained calculation results with good categories. This is evidenced by the average pre-test score of 57.30 students after being given a whole language learning model increased to 91.05. (2) There was a difference in students' fairy tale reading skills between the experimental class and the control class. It is evidenced by the value of the Independent Sample T-test Sig. (2-taileld) selbelsar 0.000 kulrang from 0.05. Based on the results of the telrselbult, it can be drawn that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted, which means that the telrcan can have a significant change of reading the reading skills of the reading of the fairy tale of grade IV students at SD Negeri 2 Tanjungsari between Classes that are taught the whole language model and those who are not taught the whole language model, as well asthe Whole Language Teaching Model.The skill read the understanding of fairy tales for grade IV students at SD Negeri 2 Tanjungsari in a significant way.
