Abstract

Critical thinking skills play an important role, including: (1) serving as an essential foundational asset for every individual, (2) being an important part of a person’s maturation process, and (3) being a skill that students need to learn at every level of education as preparation for achieving success in life. This study aims to analyze the critical thinking abilities of fifth-grade students at SDN Pilangbango in the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in the IPAS subject. The study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and a critical thinking skills test based on three main indicators according to Ennis, namely: basic support, inference, and advanced clarification. The results of the study show that most students still have low critical thinking skills. Students tend to be passive, lack initiative in asking or answering questions, and have difficulty articulating reasons and logically concluding IPAS material. This study recommends the need for more interactive and contextual learning strategies to improve students’ critical thinking skills in IPAS learning in accordance with the Merdeka Curriculum.
