ABSTRACT Yolanda Putri Saleha. 2025. Implementation of the Bookish Play Method in Indonesian Reading Learning for Grade 1 Students at SDN Wungu 03 Madiun. Thesis. Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Supervisors: (I) Dr. Endang Sri Maruti, M.Pd., (II) Vivi Rulviana, M.Pd. Using strategies that facilitate learning requires teachers to be more active and creative in finding learning resources or reading materials to use during lessons. If teachers don't use methods that facilitate learning, the process of information transfer between the teacher and the students can be hampered. This can quickly lead to students getting bored and making it difficult to grasp the concepts presented. This situation occurs in several subjects, particularly Indonesian. One way teachers can increase elementary school students' interest, understanding, creativity, and imagination in reading is by implementing the bookish play method. This research is a field research packaged in a descriptive qualitative manner that aims to determine and analyze the application of the bookish play method in learning to read Indonesian for first-grade elementary school students. The data sources of this study are primary data from 27 first-grade students of SDN Wungu 03 and secondary data from the Principal and Teachers. Data collection techniques are through observation, interviews and documentation. Through a descriptive qualitative approach based on field studies, findings were obtained that bookish play activities are able to bridge boring reading activities into fun, increase student understanding and engagement, and develop creativity and imagination in Indonesian language learning. However, implementing the bookish play method requires teacher preparedness and adequate facilities. The results of this study are expected to serve as a reference for teachers and policymakers in designing innovative Indonesian language learning that is tailored to the characteristics of elementary school students.
