Abstract
This study aims to describe the implementation of short story writing instruction based on Reog Ponorogo art, to identify the improvement in short story writing skills based on Reog Ponorogo art, and to describe the obstacles encountered during the learning process among Grade XI-1 students of MAN 2 Ponorogo. This research employed a mixed-methods approach in the form of Classroom Action Research (CAR), carried out over two cycles. The research subjects were students of Grade XI-1 at MAN 2 Ponorogo. Data collection techniques included interviews, observation, documentation, and questionnaires. The data were analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively to obtain a comprehensive picture of the learning process and outcomes. The results showed that the implementation of short story writing instruction based on Reog Ponorogo art significantly improved students' writing skills. The average student score increased from 62.5 in the pre-cycle to 73.5 in Cycle I and 84.0 in Cycle II. Classical learning completeness increased from 28.13% to 59.38%, reaching 90.63% in Cycle II. In addition, students' learning motivation improved from the "sufficient" category to "very good." The qualitative data revealed that the use of the local wisdom of Reog Ponorogo helped students discover more authentic story ideas, enhanced their emotional engagement, and facilitated the development of story conflicts. Thus, short story writing instruction based on Reog Ponorogo art proved effective in improving both students' writing skills and their learning motivation
