Abstract

This study aims to describe (1) the use of constructive play media in improving early reading skills of first-grade students at SD Negeri Pulorejo 3, Ngoro District, Jombang Regency, and (2) the learning outcomes of first-grade students at SD Negeri Pulorejo 3, Ngoro District, Jombang Regency, in early reading instruction using constructive play media. This research is a classroom action research consisting of two cycles. The results of this study show that: (1) the use of constructive play media successfully improved the early reading skills of first-grade students at SD Negeri Pulorejo 3, Ngoro District, Jombang Regency. This is evidenced by student activity while using puzzle media during learning, which shifted to "good" and "very good" categories. Furthermore, the use of constructive play media in the classroom received positive responses not only from the students, but also from classroom teachers and parents; (2) the learning outcomes of first-grade students at SD Negeri Pulorejo 3, Ngoro District, Jombang Regency, in early reading instruction using constructive play media showed significant improvement. In Cycle I, only 6 out of 15 students (40%) achieved the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM), with an overall average score of 67.33. This improved in Cycle II, where 12 out of 15 students (80%) reached the KKM, increasing the average score to 80.66.
