Keywords: writing, modern poetry, live action models, and video media This study aims to describe and explain (1) the application of direct action model assisted by video media can improve the skills of writing modern poetry in class VII students of SMPN 1 Plandaan, Plandaan District, Jombang Regency, and (2) the learning outcomes of class VII students of SMPN 1 Plandaan, Plandaan District, Jombang Regency in learning to write modern poetry using direct action model assisted by video media. This study is a classroom action research with two research cycles. The results of this study are (1) the application of direct action model assisted by video media can improve the skills of writing modern poetry in class VII students of SMPN 1 Plandaan, Plandaan District, Jombang Regency, there is an increase. This is evidenced by the results of student observations in cycle I, namely 97% of students present during the learning process; 86% of students who pay attention to the teacher's explanation; 38% of students actively ask questions and express opinions; 54% of students are able to work together with their group members; 54% of students are responsible for doing assignments; 70% of students are able to compose modern poetry; 70% of students complete assignments on time; Students are able to make conclusions on what has been learned by 54%; and Students who do other activities during the learning process (noisy, playing, disturbing friends, going in and out of the class) by 10.6%. The results of student observations in cycle II are that students who are present during the learning process are 100%; Students who pay attention to the teacher's explanation are 98%; Students actively ask questions and give opinions by 75%; Students are able to work together with their group members by 90%; Students are responsible for doing assignments by 90%; Students are able to compose modern poetry by 90%; Students complete assignments on time by 98%; Students are able to make conclusions on what has been learned by 90%; Students who read the results of modern poetry in front of the class by 88%; and Students who do other activities during the learning process (noisy, playing, disturbing friends, going in and out of the class) by 2.3%, and (2) the learning outcomes of Class VII students of SMPN 1 Plandaan, Plandaan District, Jombang Regency in learning to write modern poetry using the direct action model assisted by video media have increased. This is proven by the average score of student learning outcomes in cycle I of 66. In cycle II, the average score of student learning outcomes increased to 95.
