ABSTRACT Erieza Hermawati. 2026. Improving Reading Comprehension of Narrative Texts through the Story Mapping Method for Fifth-Grade Students at SDN Sukomoro 1, Sukomoro District, Magetan Regency. Master's Thesis. Master's Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Graduate School, PGRI Madiun University. Supervisors: Dr. Bambang Eko Hari Cahyono, M.Pd. and Dr. Heny Kusuma Widyaningrum, M.Pd. Keywords: reading comprehension, narrative text, story mapping method, classroom action research. This study was motivated by the low level of narrative text reading comprehension among fifth-grade students at SD Negeri Sukomoro 1. Students experienced difficulties in understanding reading passages, identifying intrinsic elements of stories, determining main ideas, and drawing conclusions. Therefore, an instructional method capable of improving students' reading comprehension was required. This study aimed to: (1) describe the implementation of the story mapping method in teaching narrative text reading comprehension, and (2) improve students' reading comprehension through the story mapping method. This research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The study was conducted in two cycles involving 10 students (6 boys and 4 girls). Data were collected through observation, tests, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using qualitative and quantitative techniques. The findings revealed that the implementation of the story mapping method successfully improved students' reading comprehension. In the pre-cycle, the average score was 63 with a learning mastery rate of 30%. In Cycle I, the average score increased to 74 with 60% mastery. In Cycle II, the average score improved to 86 with a mastery rate of 90%. Teacher and student learning activities also improved in each cycle. It can therefore be concluded that the story mapping method is effective in improving narrative text reading comprehension among fifth-grade students at SD Negeri Sukomoro 1, Sukomoro District, Magetan Regency.
