Abstract
This study aims to: (1) describe and identify the types of figurative language found in the lyrics of Rayuan Pulau Kelapa and Selalu Ada di Nadimu; (2) interpret the figurative expressions contained in the Indonesian patriotic song Rayuan Pulau Kelapa and the children's song Selalu Ada di Nadimu from the perspectives of elementary school students; and (3) describe the contribution of song lyric interpretation to fostering students' fundamental character. This study employed an interpretive qualitative approach using a case study design. The research was conducted at SD Negeri Ngariboyo 1, Magetan Regency, involving 15 sixth-grade students as the research participants. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and students' worksheets. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing, and verification using source, technique, and time triangulation.The findings reveal that the lyrics of Rayuan Pulau Kelapa contain metaphor, personification, association, and metonymy, whereas the lyrics of Selalu Ada di Nadimu contain personification, association, and hyperbole. Students' interpretations of Rayuan Pulau Kelapa predominantly reflect love for the homeland, admiration for Indonesia's natural beauty, fertility, peace, willingness to sacrifice for the nation, and a strong sense of nationalism. Meanwhile, Selalu Ada di Nadimu is interpreted as an expression of parents' prayers, affection, unwavering support, and hopes for their children in facing life's challenges. The process of interpretation not only enhances students' ability to recognize and understand figurative language but also contributes to character building—specifically regarding nationalism, patriotism, and a commitment to defending the nation, as reflected in the song "Rayuan Pulau Kelapa." Character traits fostered by the song "Selalu Ada di Nadimu" include politeness, discipline, responsibility, and a spirited approach to life. These research findings indicate that song lyric interpretation activities can serve as a meaningful alternative for literature instruction and a medium for character education in elementary schools.
