Keywords: school canteen; Social Studies learning; contextual learning; discipline; learning resources; responsibility Social Studies (IPS) learning is still predominantly oriented toward the delivery of theoretical concepts, limiting students' ability to relate the learning materials to real-life experiences in their surrounding environment. One alternative approach is to utilize the school environment as a contextual learning resource. This study aimed to analyze the utilization of the school canteen as a contextual learning resource in Social Studies learning to foster students' discipline and responsibility. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach and was conducted at SMP Negeri 4 Madiun. The research participants consisted of the principal, a Social Studies teacher, school canteen managers, and students, who were selected purposively based on the objectives of the study. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using the interactive analysis model, including data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that the school canteen functions as a contextual learning resource that enables students to understand the concepts of production, distribution, and consumption through direct experience. Furthermore, the utilization of the school canteen enhanced students' active participation in the learning process and promoted the internalization of discipline and responsibility through habitual practices such as queuing orderly, maintaining cleanliness, complying with school regulations, and demonstrating honesty during buying and selling transactions. The novelty of this study lies in redefining the school canteen as a contextual learning environment that integrates Social Studies instruction with character education. These findings contribute to the development of environment-based learning and provide practical references for teachers in designing more contextual, meaningful, and character-oriented Social Studies learning.
