Abstract

Early literacy is a fundamental skill that is important to develop from an early age, particularly in language, and can be fostered through children's stories that are closely related to the local culture. Local legends have potential as literacy media because they contain cultural values, language, and local wisdom, but their availability is still limited. This study aims to describe the data collection process for the Mbah Sundhul Cemetery legend in Kebonagung Village, Magetan Regency, identify the language structure and values of local wisdom, and analyze the storyline that develops in the community. The study used a qualitative approach with an expedition method through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the constant comparative method and validated through triangulation of sources and techniques. The results show that the Mbah Sundhul legend developed orally, with variations in the story, but shares similarities in the characters, cultural values, and moral messages. This legend contains religious, social, and cultural values that are relevant as early literacy material based on children's stories and as an effort to preserve local culture.
