Abstract
Nania Mariatul Istifah 2026. Implementation of Differentiated Learning Approach in Developing Critical Thinking Skills through Anecdotal Texts in Grade X Students of SMA Negeri 1 Jiwan. Thesis, Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas PGRI Madiun, Supervisor (1) Prof. Dr. Bambang Eko Hari Cahyono, M. Pd. and Supervisor (II) Asri Musandi Waraaulia, M. Pd. This research is motivated by the low critical thinking skills of grade X students of SMA Negeri 1 Jiwan in understanding the implied meaning of anecdotal texts. Students tend to only understand the humorous elements without being able to analyze the social criticism contained therein. In addition, the learning approach which is still conventional causes the learning needs, interests, and readiness of students not to be optimally accommodated. Therefore, this study aims to describe the planning for implementing a differentiated approach to develop critical thinking skills through anecdotal texts in 10th-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Jiwan, to describe the application of the differentiated approach in developing critical thinking skills in 10th-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Jiwan, and to identify obstacles and solutions that emerged during the implementation of the differentiated approach. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach. The study was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Jiwan, Madiun Regency, in May and June 2026. Data sources included Indonesian language teachers, 10th-grade students, learning activities, and supporting learning documents. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, observation, and document and archive reviews. Data validity was ensured using source triangulation, increased diligence, extended data processing, use of reference materials, and discussions with colleagues. Data analysis employed an interactive analysis model that included data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results indicate that the differentiated learning approach can help teachers adapt learning to students' needs, interests, and readiness through differentiation of content, process, and product. The implementation of this approach encourages students to be more active in analyzing, evaluating, and summarizing the content of anecdotal texts, thus optimally developing their critical thinking skills. Furthermore, the learning environment becomes more inclusive and engaging, providing opportunities for students to develop creativity and higher-order thinking skills (HOTS).
