Keywords: reading, starters, media, and flashcard This study aims to describe (1) the application of flashcard media can improve the beginning reading skills of second-grade students of Kediren 1 Elementary School, Lembeyan District, Magetan Regency and (2) the learning outcomes of second-grade students of Kediren 1 Elementary School, Lembeyan District, Magetan Regency in learning beginning reading using flashcard media. This study is a classroom action research with two research cycles. The results of this study are (1) the application of flashcard media can improve the beginning reading skills of second-grade students of Kediren 1 Elementary School, Lembeyan District, Magetan Regency. In the first cycle, the average score of students was 64,33 which, if categorized into a scale of five, is in the moderate category and the average score of the second cycle increased to 88.66 which, if categorized into a scale of five, is in the good category. This means that there is an increase in beginning reading skills with the application of flashcard media in second-grade students, and (2) the learning outcomes of second-grade students of Kediren 1 Elementary School, Lembeyan District, Magetan Regency in learning to read beginning using flashcard media have increased. This is proven in the first cycle, there were 5 students (33%) who completed the beginning reading using picture word card media in second grade and in the second cycle, 12 students (80%) completed understanding the ability to read beginning with the application of flashcard media in second grade students.
