Abstract
Dita Aulia Nabila (2026). Cultural Values in the Folktale Ki Ageng Mirah: A Folktale from Ponorogo and Their Relevance to Literature Instruction in Senior High School. Undergraduate Thesis, Indonesian Language and Lit-erature Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Educa-tion, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Supervisors: (I) Dr. Dwi Rohman Soleh, S.S., M.Pd., (II) Devi Cintia Kasimbara, S.Pd., M.A. This research was motivated by the limited use of regional folklore as teaching material in literature lessons at SMAN 1 Kauman Ponorogo, despite the fact that folklore contains various cultural values capable of reinforcing character education and preserving local culture. The study aims to (1) describe the cultural values found in the book Ki Ageng Mirah: Cerita Rakyat dari Ponorogo by Maini Trisna Jayawati and (2) describe the relevance of these cultural values to literature instruction at SMAN 1 Kauman Ponorogo. The results indicate that the book con-tains six cultural values: (1) moral values, reflected in attitudes of honesty, re-sponsibility, courage, and resilience; (2) social values, demonstrated through help-fulness, cooperation, caring, and deliberation; (3) religious values, evident in grat-itude toward God, prayer, and belief in God's power; (4) customary or traditional values, manifested through the preservation of traditions, leadership, and the cul-ture of the Ponorogo community; (5) the value of hard work, seen in persistence, diligence, discipline, and an unyielding spirit in achieving goals; and (6) the value of politeness, reflected in respect for others, courteous speech, and adherence to social etiquette. These six cultural values are relevant to literature instruction at SMAN 1 Kauman Ponorogo as they align with the Indonesian Language Learning Outcomes for Phase F of the Kurikulum Merdeka (Independent Curriculum). Fur-thermore, these cultural values support the strengthening of the Profil Pelajar Pan-casila (Pancasila Student Profile) and can serve as contextual teaching materials to enhance literary appreciation, shape student character, and foster a love for local culture.
