Abstract
This study was motivated by the low level of students' mathematical literacy skills at SMP Negeri 1 Wonoasri, which were presumed to be influenced by students' low levels of adversity quotient and self-confidence. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of adversity quotient and self-confidence on students' mathematical literacy skills, both simultaneously and partially. This research employed a quantitative ex post facto design. The sample consisted of 152 eighth-grade students selected from a population of 245 students using proportional stratified random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and tests and analyzed using regression analysis with the assistance of Jeffrey's Amazing Statistics Program (JASP) version 0.17.3.0. The results of this study showed that: (1) there was no significant effect of adversity quotient on students' mathematical literacy skills (p-value = 0.180 > 0.05); (2) there was no significant effect of self-confidence on students' mathematical literacy skills (p-value = 0.937 > 0.05); and (3) simultaneously, adversity quotient and self-confidence had no significant effect on students' mathematical literacy skills (p-value = 0.204 > 0.05). The coefficient of determination indicated that adversity quotient and self-confidence jointly explained only 0.8% of the variance in students' mathematical literacy skills. This means that only 0.8% of students' mathematical literacy skills could be explained by adversity quotient and self-confidence, while the remaining 99.2% was influenced by other factors that were not examined in this study.
