Abstract
Hansiyah. 2026. Dynamics of Building Reading Habits: A Case Study on the Role of School Literacy Environment and Parental Support in Shaping Reading Habits of Students at SD Negeri Tamanarum 3, Kabupaten Magetan. Thesis. Master’s Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education. Graduate School, Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA). Supervisor I: Dr.V Teguh Suharto, M.Pd, Supervisor II: Dr.Dwi Rohman Soleh, S.S., M.Pd Keywords: reading habits, school literacy environment, parental support, case study, elementary school This research is motivated by the low reading habits of elementary school students, caused by suboptimal roles of the school literacy environment and parental support. The objective is to describe the dynamics of the school literacy environment's role and parental support in shaping students' reading habits. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. The subjects were students, teachers, and parents at SD Negeri Tamanarum 3. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis, then analyzed interactively using the Miles and Huberman model. The findings reveal that a conducive school literacy environment, such as the availability of reading corners, well-managed libraries, and structured reading programs, positively contributes to students' reading interest. Parental support, such as providing books at home, accompanying reading activities, and setting examples, also plays a crucial role in strengthening reading habits. The dynamics indicate that synergy between these two factors is the key to successfully forming reading habits. Challenges encountered included limited book collections and low parental awareness, which were addressed through collaboration between schools and committees. In conclusion, the school literacy environment and parental support dynamically complement each other in shaping students' reading habits in elementary schools.
