The Effect of CIRC (Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition) Learning Model and Critical Thinking Ability on Reading Comprehension Ability of Fifth-Grade Students at Public Elementary Schools in Gugus 1, Kecamatan Parang, Kabupaten Magetan. Thesis. Master’s Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education. Graduate School, Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA). Supervisor I: Dr.V Teguh Suharto,M.Pd, Supervisor II: Dr.Dwi Rohman Soleh,S.S, M.Pd. Keywords: CIRC model, critical thinking, reading comprehension. This research is motivated by the low reading comprehension ability of fifth-grade students at public elementary schools in Gugus 1, Kecamatan Parang, Kabupaten Magetan, caused by inappropriate learning model selection and suboptimal development of critical thinking potential. The objective is to examine the effect of the CIRC model, critical thinking ability (high vs low), and their interaction on reading comprehension ability. This study employs a quantitative approach with a 2x2 factorial design. The subjects were fifth-grade students in Gugus 1. Data were collected through reading comprehension tests and critical thinking ability tests. The findings indicate that: (1) there is a significant difference in reading comprehension ability between students taught with the CIRC model and those taught with conventional models, with CIRC being superior; (2) there is a significant difference between students with high and low critical thinking ability, with the high group performing better; and (3) there is a significant interaction between the learning model and critical thinking ability on reading comprehension, indicating that CIRC is more effective for students with high critical thinking ability. In conclusion, the CIRC model and critical thinking ability simultaneously affect reading comprehension improvement, so teachers are advised to integrate this model with planned critical thinking stimulation.
