Abstract

This research is motivated by the richness of Indonesian folktales that contain noble values, yet have not been extensively explored for character education and local cultural preservation purposes. The objective is to analyze the socio-cultural values contained in the folktale "Legenda Tari Dongkrek" from Kabupaten Madiun and to describe its significance for the supporting community. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with library research and document analysis. The data source was the text of the folktale "Legenda Tari Dongkrek" and various related supporting sources. Data were collected through reading and note-taking techniques, then analyzed interactively through data reduction, presentation, and verification. The findings reveal that the folktale "Legenda Tari Dongkrek" contains socio-cultural values including: (1) mutual cooperation and togetherness, (2) respect for ancestors and traditions, (3) religiosity and belief, (4) local wisdom in maintaining environmental balance, and (5) aesthetic and dance art values as Madiun's cultural identity. This folktale also serves as a historical reminder and a medium for intergenerational value transmission. In conclusion, "Legenda Tari Dongkrek" is rich in socio-cultural values relevant for integration into learning, particularly in strengthening character and local cultural appreciation in elementary schools.
