Abstract

Reading comprehension remains one of the major challenges faced by English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students due to limited background knowledge, vocabulary, and learning motivation. Integrating an appropriate reading strategy with interactive learning media is expected to create a more meaningful learning experience. This study aimed to describe the implementation of teaching reading comprehension through KWL strategy integrated with Kahoot!, identify the challenges encountered during its implementation, and investigate students’ responses to those challenges among tenth-grade students at MAN 4 Madiun. This qualitative descriptive study involved one English Teacher and 26 tenth-grade students at MAN 4 Madiun. The data were collected through classroom observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the interactive model by Miles et al. (2014) including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification, while data credibility was ensured through triangulation. The findings revealed that the implementation was conducted systematically through pre-activities, whilst-activities, and post-activities using the KWL strategy integrated with Kahoot!, creating an interactive and student-centered learning environment. The study also found several challenges, including students demonstrated higher participation, confidence, and engagement. The study concludes that the implementation of the KWL strategy integrated with Kahoot! was carried out systematically through pre-reading, whilst-reading, and post-reading activities, while students encountered manageable challenges related to completing the KWL chart, limited vocabulary, and internet connectivity, and responded positively by demonstrating active participation, learner autonomy, and increased motivation in reading comprehension.
