Abstract
This study aims to describe and explain (1) the application of guided practice methods assisted by news media to improve short story writing skills of class X AKL 3 students of SMK Negeri 1 Ngawi, and (2) the learning outcomes of class X AKL 3 students of SMK Negeri 1 Ngawi in learning to write short stories using guided practice methods assisted by news media. This study is a classroom action research using two cycles. The results of this study are (1) the use of news media with the application of guided practice methods can improve the quality of students' short story writing learning. This can be seen from the increase in scores in each aspect of the short story, namely: content aspects, presentation and organization aspects, and language aspects, (2) the learning of class X AKL 3 students of SMK Negeri 1 Ngawi in learning to write short stories using guided practice methods assisted by news media has increased. This is evidenced by the average pre-action score of 61.44. In cycle I, the average score of students' short stories was 70.31. Then in cycle II it was 83.81.
