Abstract

This study aims to describe and explain (1) the use of participatory methods with ATTL techniques can improve news text writing skills in class VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Bringin, Bringin District, Ngawi Regency and (2) the activities of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Bringin, Bringin District, Ngawi Regency in learning to write news texts using participatory methods with ATTL techniques. This study is a classroom action research with two research cycles. The results of this study are (1) an increase in news text writing skills using participatory methods with ATTL techniques. The results of the test completion in cycle I were 36.84% with a class average value of 70.24 in the good category. In cycle II, the results of student completion were 97.36% with an average value of 84.81 and included in the good category. Thus, there was an increase in completeness of 60.52% from the results of cycle I. The results achieved in cycle II had exceeded the set completeness target, which was 75. The test results showed that after conducting research on writing news texts using the participatory method with the ATTL technique, students' ability to write news texts increased, and (2) The activities of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Bringin have shown positive changes. This is evident in their enthusiasm, increased interest, and enthusiasm in participating in learning activities. Students appear more active and are not shy about asking questions to resource persons or when encountering difficulties. Students are also more prepared to receive lessons. This is evident from the non-test results, which include observations, interviews, and photo documentation in cycles I and II
