Abstract
The ability to count in early childhood is a crucial foundation in stimulating cognitive development and thinking. This study aims to (1) Describe the process of implementing traditional engklek games in improving the ability to count in early childhood, (2) Determine the increase in the ability to count in early childhood after the implementation of traditional engklek games. The problem in this study is the low ability to count in children which includes recognizing numbers, counting the number of objects, and ordering numbers. The research method used is classroom action research (CAR) which was carried out in two cycles. The research subjects were 20 early childhood children at Dharma Wanita Karangrejo II Kindergarten. The results of the study showed that the implementation of traditional engklek games can improve the ability to count in early childhood. In the results of the research cycle, the children's counting ability was mostly in the category of not yet developed (BB) and starting to develop (MB). The results of the first cycle of research showed an improvement compared to the initial condition, with 6 children in the category of not yet developing, 8 children in the category of starting to develop, and 6 children in the category of developing as expected. Continuing in the second cycle, in cycle 2, there was a significant increase in children from 20 children, with 3 children in the category of starting to develop, 10 children in the category of developing as expected, and 7 children in the category of developing very well, with the category BSH + BSB = 17 children. So the research success indicator was achieved at 85% and has exceeded the minimum success limit of 15%. Thus, the traditional engklek game is effectively used as a learning medium to improve the numeracy skills of early childhood. Keywords: numeracy skills, early childhood, traditional engklek game
