Abstract

Kastari, 2025. The Implementation of Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) Assisted by Serial Picture Media in Teaching Simple Paragraph Writing Skills at SDN 2 Embatembat, Pace District. Thesis. Madiun: Master’s Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Graduate School, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Advisor Dr. Lulus Irawati, S.S., M.Pd., Dr. Sigit Ricahyono, S.S., M.Pd. Keywords: Contextual Teaching and Learning, serial pictures, writing skills, simple paragraphs, elementary school. This study aims to describe the implementation of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach assisted by serial picture media in teaching simple paragraph writing skills at SDN 2 Embatembat, Pace District, as well as to determine the improvement in students’ writing skills after the implementation of the approach. The background of this study is the low level of students’ ability in writing simple paragraphs caused by conventional and less contextual teaching methods. This research employed a qualitative approach in the form of classroom action research conducted in several cycles. The subjects of the study were students of SDN 2 Embatembat, Pace District. The data were collected through observation, writing skill tests, and documentation. The data were analyzed using qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis to identify improvements in the learning process and students’ writing outcomes. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the CTL approach assisted by serial picture media can improve students’ simple paragraph writing skills. The improvement is reflected in students’ active participation during the learning process, their ability to develop ideas based on serial pictures, and the increase in writing test scores in each cycle. The learning process becomes more meaningful as students are able to relate real-life experiences to the learning materials. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach assisted by serial picture media is effective in improving students’ simple paragraph writing skills at SDN 2 Embatembat, Pace District. Therefore, this approach is recommended as an alternative teaching strategy to enhance elementary school students’ writing skills.
