Improving Poetry Reading Ability through the Explicit Instruction Learning Model in Fifth-Grade Students of SD Negeri Purwosari I, Purwosari District, Bojonegoro Regency, Academic Year 2025/2026. Thesis, Master’s Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Graduate School, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Supervisors: (1) Prof. Dr. Bambang Eko Hari Cahyono, M.Pd., (2) Dr. Agung Nasrulloh, M.Pd. Keywords: Explicit Instruction, Poetry Reading Ability, and Indonesian Language Learning. The low level of poetry reading ability among fifth-grade students of SD Negeri Purwosari I remains a problem in Indonesian language learning. This condition is reflected in students’ inaccuracies in pronunciation, intonation, expression, and appreciation when reading poetry. This study aimed to improve poetry reading ability through the implementation of the Explicit Instruction learning model in fifth-grade students of SD Negeri Purwosari I. This research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of the stages of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were fifth-grade students of SD Negeri Purwosari I in the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected through observation and poetry reading tests. Data analysis was carried out quantitatively. The results of the study showed an improvement in students’ poetry reading ability from the pre-cycle to Cycle I and Cycle II. The improvement was evident in the aspects of pronunciation, intonation, expression, and appreciation, as well as in the percentage of learning mastery that met the success indicators in Cycle II. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the Explicit Instruction learning model improves the poetry reading ability of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri Purwosari I, Bojonegoro.
