Abstract

This study aims to describe: (1) the implementation of information literacy-based learning methods through the reading corner in reading lessons of sixth grade students at SDN 2 Sukoharjo, (2) the impact of this implementation on students’ reading comprehension skills, and (3) the obstacles and solutions faced during the process. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The research subjects were the sixth-grade teacher and students of SDN 2 Sukoharjo. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique followed Miles and Huberman’s interactive model: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The results revealed that the implementation of the information literacy-based learning method through the reading corner consisted of three major stages: (1) planning, which involved selecting contextual and interesting reading materials; (2) implementation, which emphasized students’ skills in accessing, evaluating, and communicating information; and (3) evaluation, which encouraged reflection and presentation of students’ understanding. The reading corner played a crucial role in fostering students’ reading interest, enhancing social interaction, and improving reading comprehension abilities. Challenges included limited reading materials, varied student abilities, and time constraints, but these were overcome through collaboration among teachers, students, and school administrators. In conclusion, implementing information literacy-based learning through the reading corner effectively enhances reading comprehension, fosters reading motivation, and strengthens the culture of literacy in elementary schools.
