Abstract

Keywords: reading, comprehension, children's story content, and reading book handouts This study aims to describe and explain (1) the application of reading book handouts can improve reading comprehension skills in concluding the story content of class V students of SDN 1 Babadan, Patianrowo District, Nganjuk Regency, and (2) the learning outcomes of class V students of SDN 1 Babadan, Patianrowo District, Nganjuk Regency in learning to read comprehension in concluding the story content using reading book handouts. This study is a classroom action research with two research cycles. The results of this study are (1) the application of reading book handouts can improve reading comprehension skills in concluding the story content of class V students of SDN 1 Babadan, Patianrowo District, Nganjuk Regency. This is evidenced by the results of the analysis of teacher activities in cycle I which is in the sufficient category with a percentage of 79.16%, and cycle II is in the good category with a percentage of 95.83%. The results of the analysis of student activities in cycle I were also in the sufficient category with a percentage of 78%, and cycle II was in the good category with a percentage of 95%, and (2) learning of class V students of SDN 1 Babadan, Patianrowo District, Nganjuk Regency in learning to read comprehension in concluding the contents of the story using reading book handouts increased. This was proven in cycle 1, seen from 12 students, or 37.5% of students, included in the complete category, and 20 students, or 62.5% of students, included in the incomplete category. In cycle II, student learning completeness had exceeded 75%. 15 students, or 87.5%, achieved the KKM score, while 4 students, or 12.5%, did not complete.
