Abstract
This study aims to describe (1) the use of word-building game techniques can improve the reading ability of first-grade students of SDN Kedungmlaten, Lengkong District, Nganjuk Regency and (2) the learning outcomes of first-grade students of SDN Kedungmlaten, Lengkong District, Nganjuk Regency in learning to read using word-building game techniques. This study is a classroom action research with two research cycles. The results of this study are (1) the use of word- building game techniques can improve the reading ability of first-grade students of SDN Kedungmlaten, Lengkong District, Nganjuk Regency. This is evidenced by the reading ability of first-grade students of SDN Kedungmlaten, Lengkong District, Nganjuk Regency has increased, making the classroom atmosphere interactive and enjoyable, fostering interest and motivation, attracting students' attention and increasing students' self-confidence during the learning process. Learning with word-building game techniques is very suitable to be applied especially to improve students' reading ability in learning Indonesian, and (2) the learning outcomes of first-grade students of SDN Kedungmlaten, Lengkong District, Nganjuk Regency in learning to read using word-building game techniques have increased. This can be proven through the results of the pre-cycle, cycle I to cycle II. This can be seen from the increase in the average reading scores of students in each cycle, namely pre-cycle completion of 35.71% or 10 students out of 28 students, cycle I completion of 53.57% or 15 students out of 28 students and an average score of 69, cycle II completion level of 82.14% or 23 students out of 28 students and an average score of 78. xiv
