Abstract
This study aims to describe the implementation of animated media in early reading instruction and to analyze its impact on the reading skills of elementary school students. The background of this research is the low level of early reading skills among first-grade students, which is caused by limited variation in learning media and low student learning motivation. Animated media is considered an alternative learning medium that can present material visually, attractively, and in an easily understandable manner for students. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. The research subjects were first-grade elementary school students, with classroom teachers serving as informants. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, early reading tests, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the implementation of animated media in early reading instruction was able to increase students’ attention, motivation, and participation during the learning process. In addition, there was an improvement in students’ abilities to recognize letters, read syllables, read words, and read simple sentences. Animated media also assisted teachers in delivering learning materials in a more systematic and engaging manner. The conclusion of this study is that animated media is effective for use in early reading instruction because it enhances student engagement and improves the reading skills of early-grade students.
