Abstract
Dendik Kurniawan. 2025. The Use of Mini Theater Techniques as a Medium for Strengthening Speaking Skills in Indonesian Language Learning in Class V of Gamping 1 Public Elementary School, Suruh District, Trenggalek Regency. Thesis. Master of Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program. PGRI Postgraduate School, University of Madiun (UNIPMA). Supervisor I: Dr. Supri Wahyudi Utomo, M.Pd., Supervisor II: Dr. Dwi Rohman Soleh, SS, M.Pd. Keywords: descriptive text, science fiction story writing, Indonesian language learning, elementary school Learning to write science fiction stories in elementary schools often faces difficulties, particularly in generating ideas and developing students’ imagination. One effort to overcome these problems is by utilizing descriptive texts as an initial stimulus for writing. This study aims to describe the planning, implementation, as well as the obstacles and strengths of using descriptive texts in teaching science fiction story writing to fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Karanganom, Durenan District, Trenggalek Regency. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects consisted of a fifth-grade teacher and 18 fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 1 Karanganom. Data were collected through observation, interviews, writing tests, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive qualitative techniques through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the learning planning was systematically prepared by utilizing descriptive texts as a foundation for writing instruction. The implementation of learning shows that descriptive texts function as idea generators and initial frameworks for developing science fiction stories, making it easier for students to determine settings, characters, and story plots. The obstacles encountered include limited vocabulary and difficulties in developing story conflicts; however, the strengths are more prominent, such as increased motivation, self-confidence, and creativity in students’ writing. It can be concluded that the use of descriptive texts is effective in teaching science fiction story writing to fifth-grade elementary school students and can serve as an alternative strategy for creative writing instruction
