Keywords: descriptive writing, direct instruction, picture media This classroom action research aimed to describe the implementation of the Direct Instruction model assisted by picture media in improving the descriptive writing skills and learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at SDN Sumberagung II, Ngraho District, Bojonegoro Regency. The research was conducted at SDN Sumberagung II with 17 students as the research subjects. The study was carried out in two cycles consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through writing tests, observations, interviews, and documentation. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ descriptive writing skills, including idea development, content relevance, language use, and text organization. The Direct Instruction model assisted by picture media proved effective in increasing students’ motivation, participation, and the quality of their written work. Improvements were evident in both test and non-test results. The test results indicated that the class average score in Cycle I was 60, categorized as good, while in Cycle II it increased to 74, categorized as very good. Therefore, the teaching of descriptive writing through the Direct Instruction model assisted by picture media at SDN Sumberagung II, Ngraho District, Bojonegoro Regency was considered successful.
