Abstract

ABSTRACT Siti Sujamiah. 2025. Implementation of Think-Pair-Share Strategy Assisted by Educational Comic Media in Essay Writing Learning for Grade 4 Students of SDN Kadipaten III , Bojonegoro Regency. Thesis. Master of Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program. Postgraduate Program of PGRI Madiun University (UNIPMA). Supervisor I: Dr. Elva Nuraina, M.Si., Supervisor II: Dr. Kodrat Eko Putro Setiawan, M.Pd. Keywords: Think-Pair-Share, educational comics, essay-writing skills, Indonesian language learning, elementary school. This study aims to improve students’ essay-writing skills through the implementation of the Think-Pair-Share (TPS) strategy assisted by educational comic media among fourth-grade students of SDN Kadipaten III , Bojonegoro Regency. The research background refers to students’ limited ability in generating ideas, developing paragraphs, and applying structure and linguistic rules in writing. The study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) based on the Kemmis & McTaggart model conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The participants were 34 fourth-grade students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, essay-writing tests, and learning motivation questionnaires. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ essay-writing skills after the application of the TPS strategy assisted by educational comics. In the pre-action stage, the mean score of students’ writing ability was 64.21, with a 26.47% mastery level. After cycle I, the mean score increased to 74.82 with a mastery level of 61.76%. In cycle II, the mean score rose to 87.15 with a 94.11% mastery level. Students’ motivation also increased based on the questionnaire results, from 68.47 (moderate category) in cycle I to 83.65 (excellent category) in cycle II. Observation data indicated that the quality of teacher and student learning activities improved from good to excellent. Thus, the implementation of the Think-Pair-Share strategy assisted by educational comics is proven effective in enhancing essay-writing skills and students’ learning motivation. This strategy is recommended for use in Indonesian language learning, especially in writing activities. Teachers are also encouraged to develop contextual educational comics to align with students’ real-life experiences.
