Abstract

This study aims to describe and explain the planning and implementation of an interdisciplinary approach using character card media that combines Indonesian language learning with character development in fifth-grade students of SDN 1 Serangan, Sukorejo Subdistrict, Ponorogo Regency. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. The subjects consisted of 13 fifth-grade students, a class teacher, and a school principal, supported by data from observations, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the lesson plans integrated cognitive goals (language skills) and affective goals (character strengthening) into one thematic teaching design. Character cards served as visual and reflective media to introduce values such as honesty, cooperation, and responsibility in the context of Indonesian language learning. The implementation was carried out through reading character cards, discussing values, and writing narrative or descriptive texts based on the characters. The results showed improvements in students’ writing skills and reflective thinking related to moral values. This interdisciplinary approach is proven to be effective in enhancing literacy while simultaneously shaping students' positive attitudes.
