Abstract

Muhammad Adam Doayindra Abiyu. 2025. The Effectiveness Of The Pjbl Model On Critical Thinking Skills On The Topic Of Fluid Dynamics. Thesis. Physics Education Study Program. Faculty Of Teacher Training And Education, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Supervisors: (I) Dr. Jeffry Handhika, S.Si., M.Pd., M.Si., (II) Dr. Erawan Kurniadi, S.Si., M.Pd. This research is motivated by the low critical thinking skills of high school students, especially on fluid dynamics, as identified through observations at SMAN 1 Jiwan. Critical thinking skills showed only 12% of students, with the main weakness being the ability to provide explanations and connect physics concepts to real phenomena. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of improving critical thinking skills using the PjBL model and to describe the improvements that occurred. This research was conducted using a quantitative approach with a one group pretest-posttest design. The research sample was class XI-B selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument, a descriptive test, refers to Ennis's (1985) indicators, which focused on two indicators: further explanation and strategy/tactics management. Data were analyzed using the n-gain test, normality test, and paired sample t-test. The results showed an average pretest score of 65.00, increasing to 87.43 in the posttest, with an average n-gain of 0.63 (moderate category). The paired sample t-test yielded a significance value of 0.000 <0.05, indicating a significant difference in critical thinking skills before and after learning. The highest increase was found in the strategy/tactics management indicator. These results indicate that the implementation of project-based learning (PjBL) is effective in improving students' critical thinking skills in fluid dynamics because it provides contextual learning experiences and encourages active engagement.
