Abstract

This study investigates the effect of the Guided Conversation Method integrated with AI Talk on vocational high school students’ speaking skills. A quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group was used. The participants were tenth-grade students of SMKN 2 Jiwan, with class X AKN 4 as the experimental group and class X AKN 3 as the control group. The experimental group was taught using the Guided Conversation Method combined with AI Talk, an AI-based mobile app for English speaking practice, while the control group received conventional instruction. Both groups were given pre-tests and post-tests to assess six aspects of speaking: fluency, comprehension, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and task achievement. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS 26.0, and an Independent t-test was used to examine the significance of the results. The findings revealed a statistically significant improvement in the experimental group compared to the control group. This suggests that integrating the Guided Conversation Method with AI Talk effectively enhances students’ speaking skills. The method offers a promising alternative for teaching speaking in vocational education, where communication competence is crucial. Further research is encouraged to explore its long-term effects across different contexts.
