Abstract

Social studies learning outcomes are the achievements obtained by students after following the social studies learning process. These learning outcomes reflect the extent to which students understand the material, master skills, and are able to apply social values in everyday life. In social studies learning, there are still many teachers in the learning process who use the expository learning model. The research aims to compare the effectiveness of the role play type cooperative learning model with the expository model on Social Sciences (IPS) learning outcomes for class II students at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) Pesantren Nurul Islam (PENI) Bukur, Jiwan District, Madiun Regency. This research uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design. The research sample consisted of two classes, namely the experimental class which used the role play model and the control class which used the expository model, each with 20 students. The data collection technique uses a multiple choice test with 10 questions that have been tested for validity, reliability, level of difficulty and differentiability. The post-test results showed that the average student learning outcomes in the experimental class (86.5) were higher than those in the control class (80.5). Hypothesis testing with the independent sample t-test shows a significance value of 0.038 <0.05, which means there is a significant difference between the learning outcomes of students taught using role play and expository models. Thus, the role play learning model is effective on social studies learning outcomes compared to the expository model
