Abstract
This study aims to improve students’ understanding in the IPAS (Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam dan Sosial) subject through the implementation of the Thinking Pair Share (TPS) learning model in Grade IV at SDN Nampu 02, Gemarang Sub-district, Madiun Regency. The background of this research is the low level of student participation and the fact that many students have not yet understood the material on Indonesia's cultural diversity. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this study were 12 fourth-grade students. Data collection techniques included observation, tests (pretest and posttest), and documentation. Data were analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative descriptive analysis. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the TPS model can improve students’ understanding. This is evidenced by the increase in students’ average scores from a pretest score of 54.6 to 67.1 in the posttest of cycle I, and further increased to 78.6 in the posttest of cycle II. In addition, students’ activeness and participation in discussions also significantly increased. It can be concluded that the Thinking Pair Share (TPS) learning model is effective in improving students’ understanding of the IPAS subject, particularly in the topic of Cultural Diversity in Indonesia. This model can serve as an alternative active learning strategy that engages students more optimally.
