Abstract

ABSTRACT Retno Dwi Rahmawati. 2026. Efforts to Improve the Speaking Skills of 3–4-Year-Old Children Through the "Whisper Chain" Game at the Anggrek Kersoharjo Playgroup. Undergraduate Thesis. Early Childhood Education Teacher Training Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas PGRI Madiun. Supervisors: (I) Dr. Fida Chasanatun, M.Pd.; (II) Dr. Rosyida Nurul Anwar, M.Pd. Language ability is a developmental aspect that receives significant attention in the field of early childhood education. Language serves as a primary tool for children to communicate, convey their desires, express their feelings, and build social relationships with those around them. Children aged 3–4 years are in a phase known as the "sensitive period for language"—a time when they possess a heightened receptivity to all forms of linguistic stimuli. One factor that influences this development is the pedagogical approach employed. Previously, learning activities at the Anggrek Kersoharjo Playgroup were largely one-way, with the teacher delivering material while the children listened. However, experts in Early Childhood Education (ECE) agree that language stimulation is most effective when it involves children directly through contextual and enjoyable activities. The use of the "whisper chain" game can enhance children's language skills by encouraging them to listen to, articulate, and relay messages received during the game. Furthermore, it fosters the confidence to speak in front of peers and teachers. The results of the study, conducted over five sessions, demonstrate that through the "whisper chain" game, children become capable of listening, articulating, conveying messages, and speaking confidently in front of their teachers and peers. For children aged 3–4 years, the outcomes have been positive; an engaging learning environment makes it easier for children to retain information. With approximately 20% of children falling into the "Developing as Expected" (BSH) category, and 12 children—approximately 80%—falling into the "Developing Very Well" (BSB) category.
