Abstract

ABSTRACT Nurtiasih Kasanah. 2026. Efforts to Improve the Numeracy Skills of 3-4 Year-Old Children Through Natural Materials at the Kamboja I Babadan Pangkur Ngawi Kindergarten. Thesis. Early Childhood Education Teacher Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Supervisors: (I) Dr. Dahlia Novarianing Asri, M.Sc., (II) Hermawati Dwi Susari, S.Psi., M.Pd. This research is motivated by the low numeracy skills of 3-4 year-old children at the Kamboja I Babadan Pangkur Ngawi Kindergarten, due to the use of conventional media that lack concrete learning experiences. This study aims to improve children's numeracy skills through the application of natural materials. The method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, implemented in two cycles, including planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 12 children aged 3-4 years. Data collection techniques used observation and documentation, while data analysis was conducted using descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods. The results showed that children's numeracy skills improved in each cycle. In the pre-cycle, the average numeracy skill was 33.3%, increasing to 50% in Cycle I, and reaching 100% in Cycle II. This improvement indicates that natural materials media can help children understand numeracy concepts through concrete objects, increasing their activeness, interest, and enthusiasm in learning. Therefore, it can be concluded that the application of natural materials media is effective in improving the numeracy skills of children aged 3–4 years at the Kamboja I Babadan Pangkur Ngawi Kindergarten. Keywords: numeracy skills, natural materials media, early childhood.
