Anika Nur Rizkyanti. 2025. The Effectiveness og Group Guidance Services with Cognitive Restructuring Techniques to Reduce Student Academic Anxiety. Thesis. Guidance and Counseling Study Program, FKIP, Universitas PGRI Madiun. Supervisor (I) Dr. Rischa Pramudia Trisnani, S.Pd., M.Pd., (II) Dr. Ratih Christiana, S.Pd., M.Pd. This study was conducted in order to test the effectiveness of group guidance services with cognitive restructuring techniques in reducing academic anxiety experienced by class VIII C students at SMP Negeri 8 Madiun City. The anxiety that is often thought of by students is when facing exams or tests, generally showing signs in the form of feeling uneasy, tense, restless, difficult to concentrate and tend to avoid doing it. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of group guidance services cognitive restructuring techniques to deal with students' academic anxiety. The method used in this research is quantitative experimentation with the form of pre-experimental design. The form of pre-experimental design used is one group pretest-posttest design. The population used was class VIII students of SMP Negeri 8 Madiun City, a sample of 6 students in class VIII C who had a high level of academic anxiety. The results of the study obtained data showing that all participants experienced changes in scores after being given treatment, as indicated by Negative Ranks (N = 6) which means that all samples experienced a decrease in posttest scores compared to pretests, without any Positive Ranks or Ties (N = 0). With a mean rank of 3.50 and a sum of ranks of 21.00, this indicates that the changes that occur are not random, but rather the result of the treatment provided in this study. So it can be concluded that group guidance with cognitive restructuring techniques can reduce the level of anxiety in class VIII C students at SMP Negeri 8 Madiun City. Suggestions that can be conveyed by researchers are for counseling guidance teachers to apply group guidance services with cognitive restructuring techniques in dealing with students' academic anxiety.
