Abstract

The literacy movement is a movement that aims to improve students' reading abilities. Students' reading skills are not only limited to spelling but also must be able to understand the reading they read. There are times when it is felt that the literacy movement has little impact on students' reading abilities. So at SDN 02 Nambangan Kidul, the principal together with the teacher took follow-up action to overcome the problems faced when implementing the literacy movement by implementing a literacy habituation program. The aim of this research is to explain literacy habits as a follow-up to the literacy movement to improve the reading comprehension skills of class VI students at SDN 02 Nambangan Kidul with the help of explanatory text media. The method in this research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. Case studies are an approach used to study a problem or situation, as well as actual environmental interactions. Where research is carried out from February to June 2024. The research instrument in the research is the researcher as the key instrument or main instrument. The data source in this research uses two data, namely primary data and secondary data. Data obtained from observations, interviews and documentation. To test the validity of the data in this study, researchers used source triangulation and technical triangulation. By exploring three aspects of the literacy habituation strategy, including the process by which the habituation strategy is implemented, the reading comprehension ability of class VI students, as well as the obstacles faced by teachers when implementing the literacy habituation strategy. The results of the research show that literacy training has an impact on improving the reading comprehension skills of grade VI elementary school students. It can also improve education report cards on literacy indicators and can grow students' character.
