Abstract
This research is motivated by the issue of low storytelling writing skills among students at SD Negeri 7 Slahung, Slahung District, Ponorogo Regency. The development of technology in the field of education and the students' low skills in storytelling writing, which hinder their creativity, is also a concern. Given this reality, the author aims to conduct research on learning to storytelling writing by applying the Wayang Si Kancil Learning Media. The purpose of this research is to determine and describe the implementation of learning, the improvement of storytelling writing activities, student engagement, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of using Wayang Si Kancil Learning Media in storytelling. The type of research used is Classroom Action Research, carried out in two stages: Cycle I and Cycle II. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and tests. The test technique involves writing skill test results, while the non-test technique involves data on student activities from observation and interviews. This study uses both qualitative and quantitative data analysis techniques. Both techniques are analyzed by comparing the test results from Cycle I and Cycle II. The results of this research show that the application of Wayang Si Kancil Learning Media can improve the storytelling writing skills of fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 7 Slahung, Slahung District. This improvement is evident from the final test results of Cycle I and Cycle II. The final test results of Cycle I show that the performance indicator value for writing storytelling skills on the assessment sheet increased from 70.83 to 83.33, or ≥80%, and the average individual student score was 83.33 or ≥75 in Cycle II. The percentage of students who completed the learning objectives only reached 50%, while in the second cycle, it increased to 83.33%. Based on the reflection analysis of student activity observation data, there was an improvement in the activity score from 12 in Cycle I to 14 in Cycle II, or from 72.98% in Cycle I to 90.63% in Cycle II. Similarly, the teacher's activity score increased from 65 in Cycle I to 75 in Cycle II, or from 77.38% in Cycle I to 89.29% in Cycle II.
