Abstract
This study investigates the effect of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) learning method on students' reading comprehension skills, the effect of critical thinking ability on reading comprehension skills, and the interaction between these two variables at SMPN 1 Jiwan, Kabupaten Madiun. The research employed an experimental design with two groups: the experimental group taught using the CIRC method and the control group taught using the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) method. The sample consisted of 52 students divided into two groups based on their critical thinking abilities. Data were collected through reading comprehension tests and instruments to measure critical thinking ability. Data analysis was performed using a two-way ANOVA, which revealed that the CIRC method significantly influenced the improvement of reading comprehension skills, critical thinking ability had a significant effect on reading comprehension skills, and there was an interaction between the two variables in influencing students' reading comprehension skills. The implications of this study highlight the importance of using the CIRC method in teaching and developing students' critical thinking skills to enhance their reading comprehension abilities.
