Abstract

This research takes data from the novel by Tere Liye entitled About You. A person's personality is the main study in this research. Sri's life journey is the reason the author wants to know more about Sri's character's personality. The focus of this research is (1) Personality types and (2) Factors that influence the personality of the main character in the novel Selamat Kamu by Tere Liye. This research is studied through a description of the character and behavior of the main character using Sigmund Freud's personality theory. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with a literary psychology approach. This research describes data about the main characters in the novel About You. The writer can capture and know the personality of the main character from his character and behavior. Data collection uses library study techniques. Data analysis techniques using data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this research show that the dominant personality type of the main character is the Phlegmiticity personality type, namely this person has calm, patient, hardworking behavior, does not give up easily, is brave, independent, has good thoughts, and is intelligent. This type of character has a broad perspective, is diligent and agile and is able to be independent. Factors that influence the personality of the main character in the novel About You by Tere Liye are genetic factors (inherited factors) and family factors. It is necessary to realize that human life, from childhood to adulthood and old age, will not be separated from psychological aspects formed from character and environmental influences which can have an impact on actions and patterns in the form of positive or negative things. Psychology is an important parameter in viewing an individual's life in the dynamics that occur to him. As explained by Sigmund Freud, psychoanalysis was developed to look at the influence of the subconscious on human behavior, resulting in the important concept of human consciousness itself. In this theory, it is believed that individual behavior is quite influenced by the subconscious, whether bad or good behavior. So that an individual's personality basically cannot be influenced by the level of awareness of a thing or event that causes him to behave in a certain way. As Freud explained, the level of human consciousness is divided into three levels, namely conscious, preconscious and unconscious.
