Abstract
The use of Smart Reading Wheel Media is currently a very interesting learning media, especially used in class 1 learning. This learning media contains various consonant letters and also vowel letters, this learning media can help students in the process of learning to read at the beginning so that later students can read well and correctly. In this research the author took the theme and aim to analyze the effectiveness of using the smart reading wheel media on the beginning reading abilities of grade 1 elementary school students.The research approach used by the author in writing this article uses a quantitative Pre-Experimental approach with a One Group Pretest-Posttest design, where the research is only carried out in one class which is the experimental class. Namely, a pretest is a test carried out to measure students' abilities before the treatment is given, while a posttest is a test carried out after the treatment is given. Then the technique used to test the hypothesis is through the Paired Sample T-Test. The conclusion from the results of the analysis and discussion in this research is that through the application of the smart reading wheel media to grade 1 students at SDN 02 Nambangan Kidul, it has proven to be effective in improving initial reading skills.
