Abstract
This study aims to analyze the internalization/instillation of character values of tolerance and love of local culture based on the art of pencak silat in students of SMPN 1 Jiwan, Madiun Regency. The method used by the researcher is field research using a qualitative approach. In this case, the type of research used by the researcher with data collection procedures using: interviews, observation and documentation. The data analysis used is Miles & Huberman analysis which includes data display, data reduction, and drawing conclusions. This research was conducted at SMPN 1 Jiwan, Madiun Regency. The conclusion of the results of this study shows that the process of internalizing the character of tolerance and love of local culture based on the art of pencak silat is carried out by providing advice, motivation, advice, and habituation by coaches and pencak silat instructors about the application of positive character values. There are driving factors and inhibiting factors that can determine the success of the process of internalizing character values based on the art of pencak silat. Internalization of character values of tolerance and love of local culture has an impact on students, including awareness that can be felt and seen from the behavior of students when at school, namely respecting friends more, helping friends, and loving peace. In addition, students of SMPN 1 Jiwan are prouder of the art of pencak silat, because pencak silat can lead them to compete and achieve in pencak silat competitions.
